Hidroconta has carried out a digitalization project for the hydraulic network with 136 Centaurus smart meters in the Cruz de Gracia residential area in Valencia, marking a significant advancement in water consumption management and digitalization. The Centaurus smart meter enables real-time consumption monitoring, leak detection, and hydraulic network optimization.

The Valencian residential area has been equipped with 136 Centaurus devices featuring NB-IoT (Narrowband Internet of Things) technology, fully digitalizing its water consumption. Centaurus is designed to provide precise consumption control, leveraging NB-IoT technology to ensure coverage in challenging environments while maintaining low energy consumption—its battery has a lifespan of over 15 years. Additionally, the meter includes special modes that facilitate installation and maintenance:

  • SAT Mode: Grants access to essential settings and data through an exclusive tool for authorized installers.
  • Test Mode: Offers higher resolution for accuracy tests, automatically reverting to normal mode after 24 hours.
  • Standard Mode: Displays total volume in cubic meters (with precision down to liters) and real-time flow rate, updating every second and indicating any triggered alarms.

Integration with Hidroconta’s Demeter platform allows for the visualization and exportation of key data, such as device location, last communication, battery status, various consumption parameters for optimizing hydraulic network management, and control over alerts triggered by different alarm signals detected by the Centaurus device.

Among the alarms managed by Centaurus, the following stand out:

  • Leak Alarm: Activates when detecting a constant flow that may indicate a leak.
  • Breakage Alarm: Triggers if the flow rate exceeds the set threshold for a minimum period.
  • Reverse Flow Alarm: Warns upon detecting a negative volume.
  • Additional Alarms: Maximum flow exceeded, oversized meter, undersized meter, and stopped meter—these alarms enable comprehensive system monitoring, allowing for a quick response to any incidents.

The installation of Centaurus smart meters not only enhances operational efficiency and reduces costs by enabling early detection of issues but also promotes more transparent and sustainable consumption. Residents of Cruz de Gracia now have access to detailed information about their water usage, empowering them to adopt more sustainable and responsible practices.

The implementation of Centaurus smart meters is also aligned with sustainability policies and resource-saving initiatives promoted by local and European authorities.

This project reaffirms Hidroconta’s commitment to innovation and the modernization of water infrastructure, contributing to the development of smart cities equipped to face future challenges.
